Sticky: American Museum of Fly Fishing Apparently Run by Morons

Just heard from an unimpeachable source that the American Museum of Fly Fishing is going to make none other than VP Dick Cheney--the Anti-Christ of trout and all things wild--the guest of honor at its spring meeting. I had thought that this outfit had a modicum of common sense. Obviously, I was mistaken. Hey, American Museum of Fly Fishing: Get a life! Wake up! Smell the coffee! Where you been these last eight years?
Best,
Ted

Preliminary tests find High levels of toxic chemicals In Harriman TN fly ash

High levels of toxic heavy metals are present in samples taken from the Kingston Fossil Plant
ash spill in Harriman, TN, independent testing shows.
Preliminary testing was conducted on samples from the Emory River by scientists working in

Riverkeeper Program.
Concentrations of eight toxic chemicals range from twice to 300 times higher than drinking
water limits, according to scientists with Appalachian State University who conducted the tests.
"Although these results are preliminary, we want to release them because of the public health

Alexandria, VA – January 5, 2009 – Industry and fishery conservation groups learned today that the Department of Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is preparing to announce the final rule creating eight marine protected areas (MPAs) off the coasts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Known as Amendment 14, the rule is a change to the federal South Atlantic Region’s Fishery Management Plan (FMP) for the snapper/grouper fishery. This ruling does not affect coastal waters under state jurisdiction.

Although the amendment will establish eight MPAs for the...

Three New Marine Monuments Prohibit Recreational Boating and Fishing Access

President leaves anglers and boaters a legacy of restricted access to public resources

Alexandria, VA – January 5, 2009 –Using unilateral presidential powers provided under the Antiquities Act and bypassing long-standing environmental review and public comment processes, on Tuesday President George W. Bush will declare Rose Atoll, the Mariana Trench and the Pacific Remote Island Area (PRIA) as U.S. National Marine Monuments creating the largest marine protected area on the planet covering 195,000 square miles of the Pacific Ocean. The proclamation effectively prohibits recreational fishing out to 50 nautical miles within the monuments for an undetermined period of time until federal agencies can complete their compatibility assessments.

In 2006,...
